The right majlis seating depends on how your guests will sit and for how long. A high majlis sofa suits formal receptions and mixed-age groups, while low floor seating with mattresses and cushions suits long, relaxed gatherings. Most of our events use a mix of both.

Which majlis seating suits your event?

Choose by guest comfort first and tradition second. A sofa majlis gives structure and back support, which matters for elderly guests, long receptions and corporate hospitality.

Floor seating is the more traditional look. Low mattresses, back cushions and side cushions create a relaxed setting for iftar, Eid and family evenings. In our experience, hosts who want both often place sofas along the walls and floor seating in the centre or in a tent.

What goes with a majlis sofa?

Seating alone does not make a majlis. Low coffee tables, Arabic carpets, cushions and lamps complete the setting and give guests somewhere to place coffee and dates.

We offer tables such as the Mahdia Mashrabiya coffee table and the pallet-style Braun low tables, shown in the image above. Carpets in Lime, Ocean and Fire rent at AED 120 each, and an Arabic lamp is AED 30.

How do you plan quantities and layout?

Start with guest count, venue and the time guests will stay. Seat the most senior guests on sofas facing the entrance, and keep walkways clear for serving.
